Word Wednesday: Newts In Flagrante Delicto

Hoping for a menage et trois dans l'eau
But not quite getting there
These two headed off very connected and together
And Mr. Lonely looked so forlorn...

  1. Tis the way of life. it seems whenever I see them, they were smashed on the gravel road. Their freeze and pretend they are dead maneuver is not so effective with tires.

  2. Spring fever- hope it keeps them warm through the snow! GREAT photos, Robin.

  7. How funny and yet a tad sad. Surely there is another lady newt around the corner.

  8. Note to Mr. Lonely: Your momma must have told you there's more than one newt in the stream...

  9. Today's ear worm..
    "Lonely!
    I'm Mr. Lonely...
    Ain't got nobody,
    To ca-all my own!"
Great pictures Robin- How ever did you spot them?

  10. I LOVE rough skinned newts, especially those wide, silly grins they wear when you look at them straight on, and their pretty pumpkin undersides. (That's a warning color, by the way--under attack, these newts will arch their backs like a U to show off that orange--they can release toxins from their skin if anything tries to eat them).
I haven't seen any yet this spring, so thanks for sharing these photos!

  11. Aw, they sure are cute little guys, even when they're fighting over the ladies.

It's great that you could get such clear photos through the water--not easy!

  12. Em are newts what are newts! Ours, much less impressive but we love them so. Red-spotted. Reminds me, must take the kids on the newt trail very soon.

    Beautiful!

  13. Well, the poor fellow still has big nuptial pads on his hands, so maybe he can take care of himself.
