Migration

Even though the temps are still screaming summer at us (and we really wish they would stop), the birds are making their fall migration south to Mexico and beyond for their lovely mild winter. The orange-crowned warblers have been having a delightful time on the leaves of the yellow squash and eggplant in the garden. We hardly see them at all but only notice the leaves moving on hot windless days. Once in a while we do see a flash of yellow. So we celebrate that the warblers are moving though. Fall must be coming soon, right?

I saw a yellow warbler at my cabin in the Ozarks over the weekend. First time I'd noticed one.

That is an exquisite photo!

We've had a record number of clear sunny days and nights in a row. It is a treat to see stars every morning when I wake up before dawn. It won't be long, though, before the Pacific Northwest cloud cover returns. I've been noticing large flocks of Canada geese on the move. The pre-dawn sky to the east is looking more like Arizona than Washington this morning.

Ah, so you figured out the species? Warblers are such lovely, perfect beings.

It doesn't seem to matter what the tempurature is, the trees start to lose their leaves and the birds start their travels in Sept. I love the warm fall days and Oct blue skies, maybe because I treasure them before the eventual chill and wet days of November set in.
