The View of the Back

I remembered that we wanted to show you the back of the house. The front is barn red with white trim. I mentioned that we painted the back in the opposite style. So, here it is. We love it. It's so freakin' hot in the back with all the crazy southern exposure. The blue paint and wood were severely sun damaged.
We're hoping that this light color will give the wood and paint a longer life.

Whenever we're out there now, we feel like we're on the patio of some fancy vacation house. It's all new and pretty. It makes us laugh.

  2. Gosh, it does look like you have two totally different houses. I would never have thought of that but it is really a cool idea.

  3. That looks great and exactly the way a house in the woods should look. Why not two different colors given you don't have neighbors looking over your shoulder and objecting to a committee that oversees your neighborhood. The only thing I don't like about it is it reminds me we HAVE to still paint half of ours due to the paint flaking off and some work we did installing new windows...

  4. It's lovely! Why shouldn't you paint your house in a way that makes sense? And what you did definitely DOES make sense!
It should definitely help some. Too bad you cannot have trees for a bit of shade, but the fire hazard trumps all.

  6. it looks great!

your house is not a box; it need not be all plain and uniform.

we have a wall in most rooms that is painted in a color we like. it's good to have contrast.

i think this next year we'll get around to replacing some windows, fixing the trim, and repainting the exterior. big jobs! we have lived here 16 years, and still can't agree on an exterior color. or colors.

  8. I love the two looks. The white should hold up better, I think. We noticed that the black shingles in our roof did not really hold up for the number of years expected. Next time, we used light gray and the lasted many years. We began to take notice of the condition of shingles in house roofs after that. It seemed like dark colours aged more quickly than light colours. Glad to see you are making the place your own!

  10. The thing about having trees there for a bit of shade is, you'd have no veggie garden!! Hey - just had a brainstorm about passion flower on a pergola around your deck, for deck shade. Hmmmm?
