An Hour At The Marsh

The sun came out. The temps were in the low 70s. Sunday was a real summer day. So, we went to the marsh to see if any of the shore birds had returned.
Yes! A few had come back. It has been several weeks since we've seen very many birds at the marsh. We were so happy to see these Greater Yellowlegs and whatever these beautiful buff-colored shorebirds are.
Of course, I couldn't resist this Great Egret's perfect reflection.
Or this skypool in the wavy cattail waters.

Birds AND atmospheric optics! Life is good.

  1. Like that first shot; I’m pretty sure the second bird is a Dowitcher, but I can’t tell if it’s a Long-Billed or Short-Billed Dowitcher. Some are still in breeding colors, but a couple seem to have already faded to winter plumage.

  2. Loren-- I was hoping you'd stop by and ID that bird for me. Thank you so much! I looked at a different photo I had taken, and it is definitely a Short-billed Dowitcher. Yay!

  5. One can see why they are called Yellowlegs! All birds that would cause great excitement if they turned up over here.

  6. Great balancing act by the Egret. So nice that you get to enjoy waterfowl up close. That Dowitcher really is attractive.

Val-- thank you so much. I love photographing skypools. I always worry that I'm going to bore people with my obsessions!

John-- We were so happy to see these beautiful shorebirds. They were pretty far away, but still a delight for our senses.

    Dave-- YES!

Arkansas Patti-- I was so happy to get that reflection. It only stood still for a second like that. It was a day for beautiful birds. We're hoping for more to come.

NCmountainwoman-- We were so delighted to see the morning sunlight (a true rarity), we just had to get out to the marsh. So glad you like that Egret photo.

  9. Sounds like a turnaround for you and Roger, Robin Andrea. Yeah! You usually sound pretty positive in your posts (whether you think so or not), but this one's extra "perky."
