date night

when we bought our house last year the seller’s agent gave us a gift certificate to a local restaurant. 7 months later we got around to using it. walked to town. had a wonderfully enjoyable meal and a pleasant walk home. we decided that it was a date night.

one of the two food markets, wildberries, we go to has a nice deli section. we get veggie eggrolls there. maybe two weeks ago we saw some prepared food that looked good, mainly risotto primavera, so we got a whole dinner’s worth of various goodies. as we ate our delicatessen food at home with our own music and wine we decided it was a date night. we just did it again.

our dinner selection. yes that is raw salmon. there was pricey cooked salmon. i cooked my own.

ready to nuke

  1. Having the option to walk to and from dinner on date night, and actually walking to and from dinner on date night, are two of my very favorite things! (best wishes from the former blogger known as zilla)

  2. The risotto primavera is delicious. One of my favorite of their dishes. They make barbecue tofu everyday, and their veggie eggrolls are yummy. We add our own sauces and seasonings, and voila delicious date night fare.

  4. looks so yummy! check to see if they have the copper river salmon in yet - omg, delicious and so worth the extra $. we love it grilled on alder wood. it's loaded with extra omegas. kj's off to buy ours as I write. it just arrived here from Alaska this week. seattle ships it to the rest of the country each year.

  6. All within walking distance. Sweet!

Really really good food available right there in your neighborhood! Not to mention your garden.

Abruzzi! Do you have the memory of when Lady and the Tramp had dinner together at an Italian restaurant? "Lady and the Tramp" had just been re-released on video when I stayed in Arcata in October and November of 1999. I bought a copy in Arcata, watched it, and then took myself out for an Italian dinner in Arcata! A new friend (my Tramp), also born in 1949, was just telling me he remembers seeing "Lady and the Tramp" in 1955. That was when we were 5 years old. The scene he remembered best was the one in the Italian restaurant!

Thank you for this evocative post!

  9. I gotta say, it looks good. And I agree with others -- having that kind of stuff within walking distance would be great.

Date night for us was always Saturday night. That started when I was still working out of town and came home late Friday. We continued to do that for a long time after we were married. We still eat out, but most of the time it's not really date night. We need to start doing that again. We could actually walk to our favorite Mexican restaurant (huevos rancheros! Wednesday!) for lunch if we were wiling to leave at about 8 am.

  10. So romantic, date night. Yum Salmon. We have a boat and live near the water so we just go out and get a salmon when we want one. We also get crab, sole, cod, halibut, etc. We can our fish for winter and smoke it. Hey I really enjoyed that post!
