I've been thinking lately about posting some of the music that Roger
and I listen to all the time. Music is such an integral part of our
lives. If you search on the word "music" on the blog, you would be
surprised by how often we have posted about music over the years. I
don't know if you, dear readers, listen to music much, but if you do I
would love to see posts of what music you are listening to these days.
Today I'm posting the song we listened to most while Notre Dame was burning last April. "Was It This Lifetime" by William Ackerman. A song that truly tugs at our hearts.
My twin brother sends us links to music all the time. He loves finding new young musicians and song-writers. Their sounds are so full of hope. I will be posting some of those over the next few Fridays, and some oldies as well.
Music is a good balance to the times we are living in. Let's rejoice in song.
Very soothing music with the gutar strumming away, sort of take you back in time to the 1970's. How people tastes differ I tend to listen to the lastest music and still love hard rock
Billy-- I'm going to be posting some of the latest stuff coming out of the younger folk music generation. There are probably new hard rock bands out there too. Who are your favorites?
I'm a fan of all sorts of guitar music so you can't go wrong here. I've also risen to the challenge and posted about a strange musical event I attended back in May.
I like this. It's very calming. I know I've mentioned before that I'm a classic rock fanatic and complete Deadhead, but I do love 40's music and standards. The Andrews Sisters are my jam.
Sharon-- Ah yes, Roger is a Deadhead as well. One of the posts I have planned for a future Friday is about a line someone posted on Facebook that was from a Dead song, but the history of it is really interesting. Oh I remember the Andrew Sisters!
NCmountainwoman-- I love knowing that you have music on all the time too. A lot of our music is definitely intended for relaxing, especially in these times.
I have a 'relax' playlist, too! When I need to really bring it down to basics. Robin & Roger introduced me to Karunesh many years ago, and that is on my relax mix.
Ahhhhhh Robin, for some reason this gave me the deepest ache of loneliness. I would love to know why, what connection to my childhood that it called out to.
Thank you for sharing, can't wait till next Friday to hear some more.
Linda-- I know what you mean about that ache of loneliness. When the cello comes on, it so tugs at my heart. Next week I'm planning on a posting a song by a young woman in Brazil. The lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful.
A beautiful piece. I remember also that the Parisians stood on the banks of Seine singing Ave Maria as the cathedral burned. It was such a haunting sound.
ah, good ol' Will Ackerman. Thanks for sharing this. I'm looking forward to future Friday post with music -- especially new stuff from young people. I tend to stick with the old reliables.
Great idea...I miss having streaming radio classical music now that iTunes is charging for it. Local PBS stations have too much talk happening. I do have several friend musicians who I listen to from CD's. Thanks for sharing your music and a good idea. I'll have something next Fri!
Although I rarely listen to music except while in my car, I love when blog friends post music on their blogs and love to share music through my blog. William Ackerman's music spoke to me all those years ago and speaks to me today.

I'll be looking forward to music here on Fridays. ¡Gracias! ¡Música! Come to think of it, I have been seeking out songs sung in Spanish or with English lyrics translated into Spanish. Thank you for the reminder that music brings balance. All over the world. Through all times.
am-- I am listening to the link you provided as I type this. It is so beautiful. I love music that tugs at my heart. Yes, music brings balance. Thank you for that.
Enjoyed that piece -- seems meditative to me. Being a guitarist, I enjoy listening and thinking about how that plays on the guitar. I have probably told you this before, but I rarely listen to music as a background. I like silence and to hear the sounds around my house - wind, birds, water in the brook. Most times, when I listen it music, it is to hear how one player or another plays a celtic tune that I play. That often leads me to other tunes which, if they appeal to me, I will learn. I do like music by young musicians, and undiscovered, or non-mainstream musicians - often playing unusual acoustic instruments - like Harry Manx. I will look forward to hearing your music on fridays!
bev-- It is very meditative, and now that you mention it, I think a lot of the music we listen to is meditative. We don't have the windows open here much of the time, cool coastal living, but when we do we don't get much natural sounds from out there in our suburban neighborhood. I'm going to look up Harry Manx. Thank you for that!
Beautiful piece of music. There really is so much to choose from these days. I tend to listen to various types and if the music gives me goosebumps then it stays with me forever. I found Eva Cassidy singing Over The Rainbow to be one of those songs.
Susanne-- There is a lot of music today and so many ways to find it. Interestingly, today I was playing the letter "O" on our iPhone music list and Eva Cassidy's song came up. Quite a beautiful piece of music.
Music is on all the time in our place and the type varies depending on the time of day or season. Grenville is the one who usually does the selections and does a great job too. In the gym I listen to my own playlist on my ipod.

DeleteI've been finding a lot of golden oldies on You tube lately. I like Sarah Harmer and her tune Oleander. Listen to it. You'll like it.
ReplyDeleteRed-- I'm listening to "Oleander" as I type this. I love this. Her voice is quite beautiful. Thank you so much for this.
DeleteWhat a great idea. I am looking forward to Fridays now!
ReplyDeleteSabine-- I'm so glad. Me too!!
DeleteAnd it reminded me of this piece, Aoife by Dutch/Irish group Flairck.

One of our favourites.

ReplyDelete37paddington-- Oh yes, I remember that as well. We needed to immerse ourselves in the sounds of beauty when the cathedral burned.

ReplyDeletePatti-- I didn't know we could download music from Amazon. A whole new world just opened up. Thank you for that!
