We have no words. We're waiting to see what happens next. It's hard to pretend we are living in normal times when we obviously are not. A friend posted this on Facebook and I thought it summed it up pretty well.
The first primary vote is on Tuesday.
We'll see how it goes.
Until then, how are you?
THE PAST AND A DATE PASSED

I am gobsmacked at the Senate Republicans. Stunned, really. I lined up a busy and fun weekend to counteract my horror. It worked. Anxious to see how Tuesday's vote goes. I'm not thrilled with any one candidate. Truly. But you know me, I'll vote blue no matter what.
ReplyDeleteTara-- It's so interesting how many people are not thrilled with any one candidate, but will vote Blue No Matter Who. I wish some dynamic candidate would emerge and sweep us all of our feet and help us save our country.
DeleteI've been following this on the New York Times Facebook feed and in the TV media. I really feel for the decent, sensible Americans. Watching this from Australia though most people I know are completely unsurprised by the outcome. You are right, we have moved into some parallel universe where everything we understood to be right and fair counts for nothing now. If it makes you feel any better the same sort of thing is happening in Australia, just on a slightly lesser scale. That is, right-wing politicians being exposed in their rorting and lying, and then lying through their teeth about it whilst still maintaining power, even when it's obvious to the electorate how corrupt they are. They are brazen, unapologetic and many of us feel absolutely powerless to do anything about it. Even if there were an election tomorow, I wouldn't trust apathetic, would-be-if-they-could-be, unempathetic middle class Australia not to vote the same bastards back in. I know you have an election soon but at this rate Trump may win another 4 years. I'm sure there are more than a few Americans contemplating emigrating, but hey, don't bother coming to Australia - it's more of the same, just with a more laid back swagger.
ReplyDeleteDr Michelle-- Yes, we are living in a parallel universe these days. It's so utterly the opposite of my dreams. I tend to blame everything on over-population and the decline in the ability to actually dream of a positive future (at least one that does not involve wiping out 3/4th of the earth's inhabitants including humans). Four more years of Trump would be a nightmare.
DeleteYou've reminded me to make sure I'm still registered to get a ballot by mail!
ReplyDeleteSteve-- Yes!!!
DeleteThe blatant disregard of the Constitution is beyond comprehension. I honestly cannot wrap my head around it.
ReplyDeleteSharon-- I can't wrap my head around either. It's numbing to watch our country go into such a decline.
DeleteI wish it had been unexpected but sadly it wan't. We need to solve this ourselves in the voting booth and hopefully we can shake up the Senate also. Anxious to see what today brings. Wish I were excited about a particular candidate but so far no. Blue will be my choice no matter who gets chosen.
ReplyDeletePatti-- Absolutely shake up that senate. That crazy McConnell has got to GO! I wish there was a candidate that really appealed to me, and I wonder sadly why there isn't. Sigh.
DeleteI wouldn't come to the UK either, we've got a bumbling lunatic at the controls too!
ReplyDeleteJohn-- We're thinking Canada. It seems almost sane there.
DeleteOr New Zealand!! As the results came in on election night in Australia last year there was a disproportionate number of Aussies Googling how to emigrate to NZ. Which is quite funny, as historically we have a lot of Kiwis here because wages are usually better.
DeleteYes, been watching that debacle too. Bit of a one-trick pony I think.
DeleteI've rewritten my response 3 times.
ReplyDeleteI think I am feeling too low to respond in a meaningful way. Tomorrow is another day.
Linda-- I understand writing and deleting comments. Sometimes the words are just too depressing.
DeleteI agree with Sharon's comment. I can't understand how they can so openy disregard the constitution.
ReplyDeleteRed-- It is so startling it is driving us a little bit crazy.
DeleteIt's definitely bizarro world. I have seen and heard lies from so-called "leaders" that I never would have dreamed possible. And in the hallowed walls of the Senate yet. It blows my mind. You are right...there truly are no words to make any sense of all this/
ReplyDeleteNCmountainwoman-- I wake this morning to news that there is no news out of Iowa. There are truly no words to make any sense of all this. None.
DeleteWell, Iowa turns out to be a big mess. Paper ballots would solve it.
ReplyDelete37paddington-- I don't want to see the words caucus/primary and apps in the same sentence ever! Paper ballot is the only way to go.
DeleteBilly-- We are in such big trouble here in the US. I'm worried.
