I've been thinking about posting this song for a while. We are living in such interesting times. Between the pandemic and the politics these days, it all feels like too much. Really, it's more than a dangerous night, it's dangerous all the time here in America.
Now some small parts seem right scattered here and there
One smiling face in a crowd that's angry and scared
Can't seem to see where it doesn't get worse
It's like one good thought getting lost in an angry verse
I try to write Buddha and it comes out guns
I vote for peace and the blood still runs
I want to believe I can pass happy to my child
But the truth gets lost and the system runs wild
Send me someone who has doubts about it
Who has conquered their own fear and lived to tell about it
Someone who won't give up in the frozen rain
Who'll walk right next to me through the orchards and the grain
I wake up from a dream of a baby and a blast
Scenes from the television in the blue light it cast
Seek peace in your own heart sounds true, sounds right
I'm a troubled soul searching for peace in the night
Send me someone who has doubts about it
Who has conquered their own fear and lived to tell about it
Someone who won't give up in the frozen rain
Who'll walk right next to me through the orchards and the grain
Trying to figure out how it all fits together
Humans and sun and oceans and weather
And even if I dream alone on such a dangerous night
Tryin' to make all these pieces fit right
Send me someone who has doubts about it
Who has conquered their own fear and lived to tell about it
Someone who won't give up in the frozen rain
Who'll walk right next to me through the orchards and the grain
Even if I dream alone on such a dangerous night
Somehow I know I'm going to dream again tonight
downtown and a film

This is such a perfect song for our time. And a lovely song to listen to as well. Thanks Robin.
ReplyDeleteDr Michelle-- So glad you liked it.
DeleteGood music. Yes, we live in a world of danger. And yet there is beauty.
ReplyDeleteBarbara-- We do need to find the beauty as the balance to all the rest.
DeleteSome deep ideas here about life.
ReplyDeleteRed-- Yes, Crosby does a good job with these ideas.
DeleteThe more things change, the more they seem to stay the same.
ReplyDeleteSharon-- I just wish it wouldn't feel like things are getting worse.
DeleteWow, what a beautiful and apropos song for today. I hope we are all sent someone.
ReplyDeletePatti-- It did seem like the right song for these times. I'm waiting for that someone.
DeleteWow. That is a very appropriate song. (Sadly!)
ReplyDeleteSteve-- It is sadly so appropriate these days.
DeleteUnsettling and yes dangerous times, but nice to hope for better times in the future (one day).
ReplyDeleteBeatrice-- I'm trying to find some hope.
DeleteGood to hear that voice again, one I haven't listened to for a long time. His song is (still? when was it written, recorded?) timely and resonant today! Thanks, Robin!
ReplyDeletePeter-- This song came out in 2014. We bought the "album" back then. It seems so appropriate for these times.
DeleteHere you go: John Lewis. Think what he endured. Remember his courage and his heart. Perhaps it really is darkest before the dawn. Love you, Robin.
ReplyDeleteTara-- Yes, John Lewis was definitely someone who conquered his fear and lived to tell about it. A true hero. Sadly, he is gone. We need the new voice.
DeleteWhat Tara said. John Lewis. Someone who is still walking with us.
ReplyDeleteam-- Yes, John Lewis was definitely one of one of those beings.
DeleteNever thought of him as being one of the greatest talents to emerge from those intoxicating days but he's nailed it here.
ReplyDeleteJohn-- I agree with you. This is surprisingly good.
DeleteI always remember the story of the school that banned fairy tales because they were so violent (Giants eating beanstalk climbers and such) and the children in the school began to have awful violent nightmares, and they realized that the Grimm fairy tales had given them a place to hang their fears, and in a way, this song does the same thing for me. It is good to know we are not alone in our nightmares.
ReplyDelete37paddington-- We are sharing a nightmare moment in our country and our planet's history. Sad and true.
