Before and After

It's been a long two-weeks of house painting, and it's almost done. The painter worked alone, and that made for a longer time, and he was detailed and meticulous, which also added to the hours and hours of it. We so love the work he has done and are utterly grateful to have found him.

This is what the house looked like when we bought it.

This is what it looked like just a few weeks ago on a beautiful blue-sky day.

I'm not even sure what the name of the color that house paint is, but we wanted to change it to something lighter and brighter. So we picked Lion Yellow.

It does have a hint of yellow in the warm cream color. So I've renamed it Lyin' Yellow. The trim is Raspberry Red.

We are so happy about how it looks. Our neighbors are too. Maybe when the sun comes out and the sky is blue I'll try for another photo to capture the warmth of it.

Not much else going on these days. Our county is recommending masking up when in indoor public places. We've been doing that since the outbreak, so it's not a change for us. There has been a significant uptick of cases in our county, state, and country. It was predictable after the 4th of July celebrations and the summer gatherings. We're hoping things calm down and more people get vaccinated.

And, because I am easily amused I am sharing what I saw when I was doing the dishes. It always surprises me what a bit of light on a bottle of dish soap can do. It's the prettiest rainbow I've seen in quite a while. I take my joys wherever I can find them.

  1. The house looks splendid in its new colours; I like it a lot. Just think how much beauty there must be locked away inside people's dishwashers - they don't know what they're missing!

    1. John-- I'm so glad you like the new colors. Thank you so much for that. It's true about dishwashers hiding the beauty of soap and sunlight.

  2. My house, in the middle of tres-conventional suburbia is what would probably be called "scandalous yellow" amidst all of the grays and tans. I like yours, and the trim really makes it pop.

  5. Smiling at your play on the color of the house from Lion to Lyin' but regardless of the name, love the look.
My state is trying to claim the title for biggest increase of Covid. My county only has 20% vaccinated, masks optional. So like you, the mask has become a permanent thing for me when mingling.

    1. Patti-- I had fun with that "Lyin' Yellow" it made me laugh when I thought of it. I've been reading about your state. So sorry to hear that only 20% are vaccinated in your county. How did people get to be so dumb?

  8. I recently painted my office and wanted it to be a cream/off white. I got something called Presidential White, that looks quite yellow in my eyes. Lyin' White? Anyway, the house looks great.

  9. That is a MUCH better color, although it is definitely more "lyin'" than lion yellow! Based on the photos I don't think I'd even call it yellow, though as you said, it has a yellow undertone. Regardless, it looks great!

I love your dish soap photo, too! Good eye!

  10. Not sure what happened. I wrote a comment early this morning and then it disappeared before I could send it (-:

It's much later in the day now. I'll see if I can reconstruct the comment.

Wow! Beautiful new colors for your house. When I went out before sunrise, I noticed that the edge of the sky, near where the sun would be appearing over the hill, was clearly Lion Yellow (Lyin' Yellow). When I went into the mailroom, someone had left a Raspberry Red bowl on the free table.

The partial mandala in the dish soap bottle is lovely. And there's that Raspberry Red again! Joy! Thank you, Robin (-:

    1. am-- Comments don't always work. I make a copy of every comment I type before I hit "publish." That way when it disappears, which it sometimes does, I can recreate it.
I love that you saw a lyin' yellow sunrise. That made me smile, and that Raspberry red bowl. Life is full of wonderful coincidences. I also love that you saw ta partial mandala in the dish soap colors. I had not thought of that, but it's a perfect description. Thank you!

  11. The house repainting looks wonderful, Robin. What a great color combo choice, yellow and raspberry. Those colors should really pop against a blue sky background so will look forward to a future photo update. The rainbow in the soap suds was a great capture, whatever it takes to make us hapy isalways good!

  12. Hi Robin, your house looks beautiful! Your flowers are gorgeous.
The Covid cases here in Canada have been heading down as we get vaccinated but the medical community is talking about a fourth wave I believe in September once the kids go back to school. We have had to wear masks for over a year now. It will be strange not too!
    Enjoy your week.

    1. Robin Cat Lover-- It is so good to hear from you! What a lovely surprise.
So glad you like the house and flowers. We've lived here six years and have worked to make it our home.
Things don't look good for getting past this pandemic. I hope that smart minds and good ideas prevail so it doesn't become the new normal. We've gotten very comfortable wearing masks while we are indoor public places. It may be this way for a very long time.
Take care there, Robin, and thank you for stopping by.

  14. Once upon a time we bought a house with that weird color. We called it Band-Aid. Like you we couldn't wait to paint it a different color.

  15. Well I think you improved the look of your home, it looks so much more of a fun place to live. I do hope the painters work is good I would not want it to be like ours needing repainting a couple of years later. I ended up doing it myself because of the poor quality paint that was used.

    1. Billy-- Yes, we're pretty happy about the new colors. The painter is very meticulous. We bought all the paints for him to use. So, we're hoping it it a high quality, long-lasting brand.
