79

i'm 79 today. older than i ever thought possible. i feel no wiser than i felt at 78, or 56, or 22, or ever. woody allen once said "showing up is 80% of life" in a movie. i have showed up every day of 78 years. went by like flash. earth looks to become a more dangerous place. i wish you all the best of life. hope it all works out better than it could. in conclusion i will quote the parting message of the good old grateful dead at the end of their last concert. "be kind"

  1. robin andrea: And there is the dubious comfort of reflecting on this: had you been born twenty years earlier the likelihood is you'd now be long dead. These latter years, bedevilled by ailment, forgetfulness, and an unhealthy relationship with your GP are no doubt a torment but pleasant things do happen from time to time. Within the silence of the tomb nothing happens.

I can still sing. Beyond my lessons (which continue on an upward trend) I take time off when alone and sing for the sheer pleasure of it. And better than I did a couple of years ago. I make music at eighty-five, something I never expected. It means not a jot to anyone else, other than V my singing teacher, but it is a window on an elite world. Jeepers, I'm also insufferable.

  6. happy birthday Roger. I turned 71 this year. never in my youth did I ever think what 71 would be like, or if I did, it was old and decrepit but turns out 71 is pretty much just like every other year.

  15. I love Willie's song. What a good life he has had. I love that you sang it. You, my friend, are a hero of mine. Your encouragement got me through the early stages of retirement, and our weekly convos on Zoom are a great part of my week. Happy Birthday, you WILD AND CRAZY GUY!
