Family Love, Family Art

Elena brought the grandkids over for a visit to say hello to their great-uncle Gary. It was such a sweet gathering.

Of course it was goofy and fun in every way. Gary is heading north today (Wednesday) to Portland.  He'a going to spend a few days camping up the coast, then in the city, and then flying back home to Kauai. It's been a delight having this time with him.

When Elena and grandkids showed up, Delilah who is ten-years old handed this to me, a painting that she had painted for me.

Three egrets and a black duck. On the back was this haiku she had written.

Even as I type this my eyes fill with tears of joy. So much love and beauty in one day. Our hearts were full.

  1. Now my heart is full, too. The family photo. Delilah's painting and haiku gift for Grandma Robin. Thank you so much for this today.

  2. Ten years old, eh? Wait until she's fifteen, in between bribing her with all the cash you can scrape up to write three 1000-word short stories each intervening year. Bet you after that final (fifth) year she writes more than three. Bribing people to write is an honourable occupation; such folk are known as patrons.

    1. Roderick-- Now I'm looking forward to the next few years to see if any bribing actually occurs. We'll see about that.

  8. Not sure that I knew what an egret was when I was ten, let alone a haiku.

    1. John-- I did not know what an egret was when I was 10. I was writing poems back then, but now I wonder if I knew about haikus.
